ROKA – Residents of Kasturibai Nagar Association ­conduct campaigns to spread effective waste management practises amongst its residents.

Implement source segregation of waste, door-to-door collection and proper disposal of the segregated waste through composting, bio-methanation, recycling etc.

Process or technology involved

Volunteers in Kasturibai Nagar formed a core group to conduct the following activities:

  • Door-to-door campaign — helping residential complexes get their color-coded bins, organising resident meetings on how to segregate, going around with garbage collectors to ensure that both the residents and the collectors were following the protocol.
  • Arranged for gloves and aprons for the collectors to handle hazardous waste.
  • Arranged joint meetings with the municipal corporation to resolves issues related to waste collection in the locality.
  • Arranged a zero-waste campaign along with Civic and Consumer Awareness Group (CAG) and obtained pledges from residents to follow solid waste management practices.
