Educational institution has enhanced remotely operated vehicle (ROV)
Indigenous ROV developed in Chennai conducts climate change studies.
The shallow water ROV developed by the National Institute of Ocean Technology, that conducts climate change studies in the Indian and polar regions, has won an award from the Ministry of Science and Technology for innovation.
Operationalized in 2015, it ROV underwent successful trails in North Antarctica, capable of going down a dearth of 500 m.
Since then the ROV has been deployed in various Indian and Polar Regions for climate change studies.
The technology was awarded the National Meritorious Invention Award by National Research Development Corporation.
