Zero waste Chennai initiative kicks off in Anna Nagar
The Greater Chennai Corporation has entered into an MoU with the Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group (CAG) to minimise movement of solid waste to landfills by processing in-situ at decentralised composting or organic waste processing unit or sent to specialised scientific disposal centres.
Zero Waste Chennai Project aims to cover all the 15 zones in the city - from Trivotriyur to Sozhinganallur.
Chennai is a part of a group of cities that follow decentralised waste management systems - with each ward within the zone being able to manage waste generated.
The initiative was launched in Anna Nagar, and areas will be the first to benefit from micro composting centres and material recovery facilities as the programme expands.
