Strict bio-medical waste disposal Rules set by Central Government Body
Chennai's bio-medical waste disposal to be monitored monthly by 16-member committee
The 16 member committee, headed by Chennai district collector, is mandated to draft the District Environment Plan and furnish monthly progress.
According to the National Green Tribunal, even if after two months the States are found to be non-compliant, the compensation will be liable to be recovered from the States at the rate of Rs one crore per month till the non-compliance continues.
The Principal Bench of the National Green Tribunal have given the states a two month deadline to setting-up common treatment and disposal facility for the bio-medical waste generated and have an inventory of the healthcare facilities.
