Temple tanks promise long-term benefits for neighbourhood
Temple tanks found in and around the city could play an important role in groundwater recharge and rainwater storage with proper maintenance. Stormwater drains from the nearby areas could be connected to such tanks to obtain optimum rainwater collection.
Temples tanks in Mylapore and Chintadripet are filling up after a gap of almost ten years.
Initially being filled by tanker lorries, these temple tanks have filled up naturally due to the temporary cleaning by the government authorities.
