Chennai Corporation plans to decentralise waste management
Corporation Commissioner G Prakash gives an overview of Chennai Corporation’s blueprint for reduction of the quantum of waste sent to landfills under a new decentralized system to be implemented city-wide in the coming six months.
The first six months, the goal will be to move to 100% decentralisation for wet waste by building required infrastructure.
The city produces roughly 4500 metric tons of waste in a day out of which 2000 metric tons are wet waste.
400 Amma Canteens operational in the city collectively produce 500 kg of wet waste and this is composted in the same ward.
1806 Anganwadis have been identified where water can be handles inset through small bio-digesters.
