Equipment bought for composting large volumes of wet waste
Corporation shows way with big compost garden in its building
The office of the city corporation’s regional deputy commissioner has a full-fledged garden set up, which is fed by the waste generated in the north region of Chennai Corporation.
- The north region of Chennai Corporation generates at least 100 tonnes less waste across the zones.
- At least 12 wards in the region recycle non-biodegradable waste and convert 100% of the wet waste into manure.
- The highlight of the garden is the composter where food waste is converted into vermin compost by the worms inside it.
- A tender coconut shredder was also set up, where the centre produces coco peat and coconut fibre.
