Residents with support from civic body make plans to restore local lake

Polluted Korattur lake to be converted into eco-park, thanks to locals

Residents of Korattur have tied up with the State government to restore 590 acres of polluted Korattur Lake into an eco-park. The lake near Ambattur will be converted into an eco-park similar to the one present at Chetpet.

    • Korattur lake is highly polluted by industrial effluents and sewage from neighbouring houses causing turbidity, salinity and pH levels to increase radically.
    • Residents will assist in planting 250 species of herbal plants and trees and install two recharge wells around the lake.
    • The Public Works Department is planning to entrust the maintenance of the lake to the Korattur Residents Welfare Association.
