Local Civic body uses creative ideas to upcycle or reuse segregated waste
Dry waste disposal to get smarter in Chennai
To encourage waste segregation by residents and conservancy workers, the city corporation in the last three months set up 70 recovery centres for dry waste including metal, rubber, paper, plastic, textile and glass.
The waste deposited in the material recovery centres will be re-segregated and sold to rag-pickers, NGOs and vendors for re-use.
Corporations officials and conservancy workers are using innovative ideas to create usable products from waste - such a bean bag was created using shredded thermocouple waste.
They are tying up with NGOs that can up-cycle the discarded materials to create items of value.
