Going green: Schools put zero waste action in plan

Over the past year, Namma Ooru Foundation has been working with one corporation school and five private schools in Chennai to create zero waste campuses. These schools compost their wet waste, recycle dry waste, and refuse or reduce waste that cannot be either recycled or composted.

    • Namma Ooru Foundation focuses on holistic solid waste management in schools and temples in the city.
    • Periodical audits are conducted by the organisation in schools to help schools acquire a zero-waste status.
    • They guide schools in water resource management, energy use and increasing green cover in the campus.
