Zero Waste Chennai: Planning for a garbage-free city

Launched earlier this month, Zero Waste Chennai is all about implementing a decentralized waste management system in the city, making Chennai sustainable and garbage-free in its 200 wards.

    • Zero Waste Chennai Project aims to cover all the 15 zones in the city - from Trivotriyur to Sozhinganallur.
    • Chennai is a part of a group of cities that follow decentralized waste management systems - with each ward within the zone being able to manage waste generated.
    • Main target is to recycle 100% of wet waste and 70% of the dry waste through this programme.
